Hello, my name is Sandy. In 2013 I was diagnosed with Relapsing/Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. My symptoms started several years ago thought to be Fibromyalgia as the symptoms are very similar. My episodes can last a few hours to several days. At times I am hospitalized or getting infusions to help cope with the weakness in arms and legs, extreme fatigue, inability to following a conversation or communicate thought among other issues. Though I have come to terms in my MS, I know I need to take steps to insure my independence in the future. A Service Dog would be a blessing for my future.

I came to know about the NEADS (Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans) about a year ago. I work part time at a physical therapy facility in which a client of ours has a wonderful service dog. So I started doing the research of different programs and was very taken with the approach the NEADS program takes, from selecting puppies, the steps in the training of the pups and selecting a dog for each individual client’s needs.

On June 17, 2015 I was interviewed and accepted into the NEADS program. My dog will be trained to help me open doors, pick up items I can’t get myself, and if I fall and need help my dog will get the phone for me or bark to alert others. These skills and others will help me live a positive and independent life style in the future.

Now the work begins to raise funds to help NEADS with the cost of raising, training and placing a dog which is over $42,000. NEADS has asked me to raise $8,000.00 towards the overall cost of the highly skilled assistant I will need. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to NEADS in my name to help sponsor my Service Dog.  Gifts of all sizes will be greatly appreciated.

I will be happy to come and introduce my Service Dog to you once we are home and answer any questions you may have. All sponsors are invited to attend graduation and see the heartwarming event.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter and your thoughtful consideration.
