My name is Jackee Banfill and I am 19 years old. The summer going into my freshmen year of high school I survived a catastrophic accident at fourteen years old on July 14, 2010. I was hit and dragged by a train that has resulted in many injuries and one of them being that my right leg was severed above the knee. I spent many months recovering in the hospital and rehab. Throughout the past four and a half years I have tried using a prosthesis, but it hasn’t worked out yet due to still needing more surgery. I have had 19 surgeries so far and injuries, revisions, and chronic pain have me facing more in the near future.

On March 3rd, 2015 I was blessed by being accepted for a NEADS dog to help making my daily living easier with my injuries. My service dog will be specifically trained just for me to help with my needs. My dog will be able to do amazing tasks like guiding me when I feel unbalanced, picking up dropped items like my phone and my crutches.  My dog will also shut off lights, press handicap buttons near elevators and open doors. I am currently in college so he will be trained to carry my books and other items. He will also help me cope with my chronic nerve pain and alert help if I am in need. I have had other tragedies and losses in my life that have made me stronger.  With the help of a service dog I will be able to make a difference. I feel that a service dog will help me regain my confidence and independence.

My service dog costs NEADS over $42,000 for training it to my needs and I am being asked to help raise a minimum of $8,000. Please help with this life changing fundraiser for me by a tax-free deductible donation. A donation of any size would be deeply be appreciated.

I am looking forward to continuing my goals and one day work in the medical field. It is important to me to spread amputee awareness and support with the New England Amputee Association as well as the Amputee Coalition of America. I also support a suicide prevention group, awareness of keeping off train tracks, helping children at Shriner's Hospital in Springfield. MA. and am becoming a certified peer visitor.

Thank you for your consideration,

Gratefully yours,

Jackee Banfill
